My approach to furniture design is steeped in tradition, but
not
limited to that same tradition. Inspired by many forms of music, art and architecture, I often combine smooth, clean lines with
heavily textured surfaces to create work I call
“organic-contemporary”. Most of the surfaces I work with are
treated to a vast array of finishes - layered dyes and pigments,
textural carvings, burning and waxes. An objective I try to achieve
with my work is to delight the senses. Just as an object's overall
shape and color appeals to one's
eyes, a smooth or carved surface beckons to be touched. My pieces are
designed to be used and withstand the rigors of everyday life.
